The Citadel - Logo Design and Visual ID

The Citadel is a a daily destination offering local artisanal foods, handcrafted cocktails, maker driven retail, and culturally immersive experiences unlike anything else in Miami. I created their logo and brand identity in 2014. The Citadel team wanted a branding system that could represent the multi-use nature of the building and the brand. The icon is built by using the “C” of Citadel and turning it on side, becoming a symbol that can be evocative of a keyhole or a person. The goal was to create a symbol that was simple, easy to use, and emblematic. It can be altered and added to to create sub-brands under The Citadel umbrella. The building incorporates the icon in several ways, on the facade and even in architectural details like archways that were made in the shape of the upside down “C.” The brand as a whole represents a community, and open space, and a blank canvas for the myriad of local artisans, restaurants and creatives that inhabit The Citadel to shine in.
